Great security with equally great service. This is what we want to find whenever we’re looking into security systems out in the market. But with so many choices, both great and mediocre, it can sometimes be a little difficult to figure out what provider suits our needs perfectly.
We’ll be looking at one of the most promising contenders out there. This is our Frontpoint Security Review.
Frontpoint Security’s History and Reputation
Frontpoint Security is a relatively new player in the market. It was founded and began operating in 2007 and has since been serving all 50 states, including Canada.
It uses Rapid Response Monitoring, based in both New York and California, to handle the needs of its clients. Although it isn’t Five-Diamond certified, it’s still a reputable service provider as it had been awarded the 2016 CSAA Central Station of the Year award.
The system relies heavily on automation and wireless and cellular communication between the devices and the alarm station. A mobile application allows homeowners to keep track of and remotely control their houses.
Aside from this, the company has also been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 04/27/2009. It has a BBB rating of A+ and an overall positive review rating clocking in at an outstanding 88%. Different customers praised the company’s reliability, simplicity, and great customer service.
Plan Pricing and Services
Frontpoint Security provides its users with email and text notifications whenever its devices detect changes in the house. Aside from the basic packages that they’re offering, the company also provides the ability to customize depending on your needs.
Frontpoint Security costs are divided into two: packages and plans. The company provides three basic device packages and three monthly plans to go with it.
Frontpoint’s monthly plans are affordable and are packed with useful features:
|Plans||Monthly Charge||Upfront Cost||Main Features|
|Protection||$34.99||$99||Self-Diagnosing System, Fire & Environmental Protection, 100% Wireless and Cellular|
|Interactive||$44.99||$199.93||All PROTECTION features, plus Mobile App Arm/Disarm, Sensor History, Text, Push, Email alerts and notifications|
|Ultimate||$49.99||$199.93||All INTERACTIVE features, plus Live Video Streaming, Home Automation, Energy Management|
The monthly rates remain the same all throughout the contract period, so there’s no need to worry about additional costs. Upfront costs refer to the payments you need to make for the equipment and its activation.
Unfortunately though, the devices only have a 3-year limited warranty as opposed to the lifetime warranties that other companies provide.
The following are the company’s device packages:
|Pro||$199.95 (from $509.93)||Keypad Panel, 5 Door/Window Sensors, 1 Motion Sensor, 1 Indoor Cam, 1 Doorbell Cam|
|Pro Plus||$349.50 (from $673.90)||Keypad Panel, 5 Door/Window Sensors, 2 Motion Sensors, 1 Glass Break Sensor, 1 Smoke/Heat Sensor|
|Pro Cam||$599.95 (from $972.90)||Touchscreen Panel, 5 Door/Window Sensors, 2 Motion Sensors, 1 Indoor Cam, 1 Doorbell Cam|
If you find the devices listed in their basic packages to be inadequate for your needs, don’t worry, they also offer add-ons.
- Additional cameras cost between $99.99 and $299.99 each
- Additional sensors cost between $32.99 and $89.99 each
- Smart locks cost $159.99 each
- Keychain remotes cost $31.99 each
Some of the add-ons listed above are only available for Ultimate Plans. These add-ons are the cameras and the smart locks.
Top Tips for Buyers
If you’re interested in using Frontpoint Security to secure your home, you need to have a credit score of at least 600. This is a fairly low mark (Credit Sesame categorizes a score of 600 as poor) and shouldn’t be a major obstacle. However, if your score is below this, there are still other security providers out there.
Dealers and sales representatives aren’t aggressive too and customers have praised the company’s strategy to not pressure its future clients. Make sure to have a good idea of how many devices your house actually needs so you don’t spend in excess. Sales reps will be more than happy to help you out.
One of the benefits of Frontpoint’s devices is that they’re wireless and can be detached and reattached as you please. You can avail of the discount for the packages and spend only by the lower end of the price range by entering a three-year contract.
The contract auto-renews after the agreed expiration date. If you want to cancel, however, Frontpoint needs you to send in a certified letter with a return receipt at least two months before the contract’s expiration. This can be a big hassle for you if you no longer plan on using the system, but this is pretty standard in the industry.
Homeowners need to consider this carefully as the auto-renewal can subject them to cancellation fees.
You get to keep the equipment you’ve purchased after the contract expires. This will only work locally though as the account associated with the mobile app will be disabled.
Cancellation and Transfer Policies
As earlier mentioned, Frontpoint’s devices are wireless and can be easily moved. This makes it easier for you to take the company’s security to whichever place you would be moving to.
The company also provides you with moving kits for your equipment free of charge. And since they cover the entire United States, it’s almost unlikely that you’ll be in an area without cell coverage. When you decide to move, all you need to do is to inform the central station when you’d be disabling and re-enabling the devices.
Their easy transfer policies can help you avoid cancellation fees. The company charges 80% of the remaining contract should you decide to cancel. For example, if you have 24 months left on a contract where you’re paying $34.99 a month, you’ll need to pay $671.81 to cancel.
This 80% cancellation fee applies to all three plans.
What’s the Bottom Line?
In spite of being a young competitor in the home security arena, the company has proven to be a dedicated and reliable service provider. Frontpoint reviews are mostly positive and most clients praise its patiehint, knowledgeable staff in the customer service department.
If you can look past the somewhat hefty costs, Frontpoint Security is definitely a great choice to boot with its excellent track record and reputation.
