Top Tips For Buyers
Before signing the contract, make sure you’ve read and understood all of the terms.
Many of the issues raised about the company are the auto-renewal policy of the contract.
When you sign-up for monitoring services, you could be eligible for a discount on a homeowner’s insurance. That’s an additional bonus.
The company also has a referral program. For every referral, $75 is credited to your account. What more is that the amount of credit can be doubled if the referral becomes a CSG customer within 60 days of the date of your original installation.
When a false alarm occurs, you can ask for a review of the situation. If the results of the review are in your favor, credit will be applied equally to the full or partial amount of the fine you have paid.
Cancellation and Transfer Policies
The contract is for a minimum of 2 years, and the company automatically renews the contract. If you have plans for canceling the contract, ensure that you do it on time and send a written notice. Otherwise, you will have to pay the remaining period or buy-out the contract.
Some complaints on extra fees, such as cancellation fees costing as much as $475, have been raised against CSG.
If you’re selling your house, you would have to pay for the fees unless the new owners take over the contract.
When you’re transferring, you have to cancel your policies at the right time if it can’t be moved to your new home. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay the remaining period or buy-out the contract.
However, it has the “360 Residential Move Program” where the customers will be given three move options:
- Advanced wireless intrusion system
- Replacement of an existing control panel
- Reprogramming of an control panel
This promotion required a 36-month service contract costing a minimum of $34.95 per month with $100 account credit upon activation.
What’s the Bottom Line?
Notwithstanding the issues raised regarding the cancellation of the contract and the consequent extra fees paid, the company offers many good points.
It would, however, be better if the company is more transparent with its pricing and plans.
